Brief Description |
The project s basic idea is that -however important technological factors may be- equally crucial but often neglected prerequisites for success relate to the broader cultural, political, social and economic contexts of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). The complex relationships between social, cultural, economic, organisational, political, educational, infra-structural, legal and technological aspects (so-called socio-cultural aspects) need careful and strategic consideration to achieve a successful adoption of ICT. The case-studies in this research (based on projects of IICD in Jamaica and Tanzania) will come in the form of qualitative in-depth ethnographical studies that describe the used technologies and the socio-cultural context in all its relevant aspects, and analyse the factors that determine the failures and successes in the project s development. |
