Brief Description |
The Instructional Technology Institute (ITI) seeks to provide an on-going ICT-based capability for the training of teachers and trainers in Jamaica s teachers colleges, training and vocational training institutes and academies, as well as companies. The Project was formulated during an IICD ICT Roundtable in July 1998 in Kingston and its specific objective is to:
build the capacity to develop ICT-based/web-based materials that take into account the national and regional cultural context as well as educational standards; and in turn, use these materials in a high-quality training facility.
Individually, the Project s partner organisations do not have sufficient human resources and hardware/software facilities to realise the Project aim and meet the needs of different user groups in Jamaica. However, the synergy achieved by pooling resources allows for a cost-effective solution to vocational training by means of concentrating facilities and teaming field experts. ITI will involve the development of ICT-based institutional material and programmes, utilising computer, internet/intranet, TV and radio and other appropriate technologies such as those in support of virtual classroom and distance education. |
