Brief Description |
The OECS has declared economic diversification beyond the agricultural sector and outside tourism an economic policy priority. Five OECS countries, St. Kitts & Nevis, Dominica, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, Grenada and St. Lucia, have agreed to jointly approach telecommunications reform and have mobilised own funds and obtained a loan from the World Bank in order to meet the challenges. More specifically, the reform of the sector addresses the high costs of access to telecommunications services, the lack of trained personnel and technical as well as regulatory expertise in the sector,
often limited access to the physical infrastructure by consumers,
sometimes low quality of telecommunications services,
target to implement alternative technologies to provide competing services.
